Beyond
Admissions

- Co-Founder & Chief Strategy Officer, YRI
- Adjunct Professor for business, a global top-50 university
- Over a decade of experience managing alumni interviews and relations for an Ivy League school
- 20+ years of experience in investment banking and private equity across New York, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing
- Formerly a winner of the Canadian Math Olympiad
- Raised between cultures, shaped by early challenges of identity and belonging, and ultimately defined by his own path — culminating in an undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College.
When I graduated from Dartmouth College twenty years ago, I carried a simple belief:
Education has the power to change lives.
Over the next two decades, I built my career in investment banking and private equity — participating in billion-dollar transactions, leading recruitment and training at a global investment bank, and reviewing thousands of resumes from top candidates around the world.
Yet over time, one realization became increasingly clear:
is investment in people.
This belief deepened during my years as an admissions interviewer. Having reviewed countless applications and spoken with many exceptional students, I came to understand that what truly distinguishes candidates is not perfection — not a flawless GPA, not a long list of activities — but something far more fundamental:
- The ability to think independently
- The courage to ask meaningful and sometimes difficult questions
- And a genuine curiosity about the world
This aligns with a principle I have always believed in:
is investment in people.
However, I also began to notice a pattern among students: many were working incredibly hard — yet moving in the wrong direction.
- The ability to think independently
- The courage to ask meaningful and sometimes difficult questions
- And a genuine curiosity about the world
This is not a problem of effort. It is a problem of system design. Most admissions pathways today are built around:
- Pre-packaged experiences
- External program sourcing
- And narrative construction after the fact
But without real substance, even the best story cannot hold. That is why we built YRI. It is not another admissions consultancy, but a student growth system. It is journey that integrates:
- The strategic thinking of an investor
- The perspective of an admissions evaluator
- And the responsibility of an educator
At YRI, we do not aim to standardize success; we aim to develop individuals. We do not guide students to follow a path; we work with them to build one.
Because in the end, the goal is not admission — but becoming someone who truly belongs and thrives. Within this in mind, we have build a new system for students growth — one that focus on the journey. We are convinced that all students are great in their own ways. With the right direction and development, strong outcomes will follow.
We are not just here to support your application. We are here to work with you — as a long-term partner — in your growth, your decisions, and your future.

We measure transformation, not just destination.
From U.S. High School to Columbia Engineering
A student with strong potential but unclear positioning needed a focused academic identity.
Mentorship transformed scattered interests into a credible engineering direction.
Research, coursework, activities and essays were built as a connected system.
A stronger academic profile and clearer intellectual narrative.
From High Achievement to Stanford
Strong grades were not enough to express a distinctive intellectual direction.
Exploration revealed a more personal and rigorous theme.
Depth, coherence and authentic growth replaced surface-level packaging.
Admissions became the outcome of sustained development.
